Privacy Policy for Aeon

1. Our Philosophy

Aeon is built on the principle of Privacy by Design. Your life's timeline, milestones, and personal data are deeply private. We have designed Aeon so that your personal information stays on your device — we never have access to your events, countdowns, or life metrics.

2. Data We Collect

2.1 Data Stored Locally on Your Device

Aeon stores the following data locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly enable iCloud Sync (see Section 3).

• Name — used to personalize your experience within the app
• Date of birth — used to calculate life metrics (remaining weeks, summers, etc.)
• Gender — used to estimate life expectancy for life metric calculations
• Life expectancy setting — customizable, used for life metric calculations
• Wake-up and bedtime — used to calculate your daily waking hours
• Countdown events — titles, dates, emojis, colors, and reminder settings
• App preferences — theme, notification settings, and display preferences

We (the developers) cannot access, read, or retrieve any of this data. It exists solely on your device.

2.2 Location Data

Aeon requests access to your approximate location (coarse location accuracy) solely to calculate sunrise and sunset times for the Sunset & Sunrise countdown feature. Your location data is:

• Processed entirely on your device
• Never transmitted to any server
• Never stored persistently — it is used in real-time and discarded

You can deny location access at any time. If denied, the Sunset & Sunrise feature will be unavailable, but all other features will work normally.

2.3 Calendar Data

Aeon can import events from your device's calendar (via Apple's EventKit) to create countdowns. Calendar data is:

• Accessed only when you explicitly choose to import events
• Not stored separately — imported events become local countdown entries
• Never transmitted to any server or third party

You can deny calendar access at any time in your device's Settings.

2.4 Subscription Data (RevenueCat)

Aeon offers optional paid subscriptions managed via RevenueCat, a third-party subscription management service. When you subscribe:

• RevenueCat assigns an anonymous identifier to track your subscription status
• All financial transactions are handled securely by Apple through the App Store
• Aeon does not store, access, or process your credit card details, billing address, or Apple ID

2.5 Analytics (PostHog)

To improve Aeon, we use PostHog, a product analytics platform. PostHog collects:

• Anonymized usage data — such as which features are used, screen views, button taps, and general app navigation patterns
• Basic device information — such as device model, OS version, and app version
• A random anonymous identifier — to distinguish unique users without identifying them personally

PostHog does NOT collect:

• Your name, birth date, gender, or any personal data entered in the app
• Your countdown event titles, dates, or content
• Your location data
• Any data that could personally identify you

All analytics data is aggregated and anonymized. We use it solely to understand which features are popular, identify bugs, and improve the user experience.

You can opt out of analytics by disabling App Tracking in your device's Settings.

2.6 Data We Do NOT Collect

Aeon does not collect, store, or transmit:

• Email addresses, passwords, or account credentials
• Browsing history or search history
• Contacts or address book data
• Photos, videos, or media
• Health or fitness data
• Advertising identifiers for ad targeting

3. iCloud Sync (Optional)

Aeon offers optional iCloud Sync using Apple's CloudKit framework. If you enable this feature in Settings:

• Your countdown events and preferences are stored in your private iCloud database
• Data is synced across your Apple devices signed into the same iCloud account
• This data is stored in your personal iCloud container — we (the developers) cannot access, read, or download it
• Your data is protected by Apple's security and encryption protocols

iCloud Sync is disabled by default. You can enable or disable it at any time in the app's Settings. If disabled, all data remains stored locally on your device only.

4. Notifications

Aeon uses local notifications to deliver reminders for your countdowns and focus messages. These notifications are:

• Generated and scheduled entirely on your device
• Not sent through any external server — they are local notifications, not push notifications
• May contain your name, event titles, and dates as configured by you

You can manage or disable notifications at any time in your device's Settings or within the Aeon app.

5. App Tracking Transparency

Aeon displays Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt as required by Apple. However, regardless of your choice:

• Aeon does not track you. No data is shared with third parties for advertising or ad measurement purposes.
• No advertising identifiers are collected or used.
• Your ATT choice does not affect any functionality within the app.

6. No Registration Required

Aeon does not require an email address, password, phone number, or any social media login. You can use the app fully without creating an account. Your identity remains anonymous to us.

7. Data Retention & Deletion

All personal data is stored on your device (and optionally in your private iCloud container). You have full control over your data:

• Delete individual events at any time within the app
• Delete all data using the "Delete All Data" option in Settings, which permanently removes all personal data, events, and preferences from the app
• Disable iCloud Sync to stop syncing, then delete your iCloud data via your device's iCloud Storage settings
• Delete the app to remove all locally stored data from your device

We do not retain any copies of your data on any server, as we never have access to it in the first place.

8. Children's Privacy

Aeon is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or the applicable age of consent in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal data through the app, please contact us and we will take steps to address the situation.

9. Your Rights Under GDPR

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

• Right of access — You can view all your data directly within the app
• Right to rectification — You can edit all your data in the app's Settings
• Right to erasure — You can delete all your data using "Delete All Data" in Settings
• Right to data portability — Your data is stored in your iCloud account, which you control
• Right to object — You can disable any data collection (location, calendar) via your device's Settings

Since all data is stored locally on your device (or in your private iCloud container), you have direct and complete control over your data at all times without needing to contact us.

10. Third-Party Services

Aeon uses only the following third-party services:

No advertising networks or data brokers are used.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected by the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of Aeon after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
